The building of this church was a work in progress. In 1879, the governor thought it necessary to close the old church because of disrepair. Father Maillard, then parish priest, offered a lot on his property Roziere for the location of the new building. Fundraising is not easy, the contribution of everyone in all forms has been requested, from 1884. Many priests succeeded during construction work that was completed in 1898. The church of St. Joseph, the largest of Martinique, a replica of Notre Dame, yet its present appearance since the 2 towers will be built in 1930. New windows were opened in January 2005.
