Saint- Joseph possesses the vastest forest area of Martinique.Situated to North East region, its represents more than third of the commune, nearly 3750 acres of wood.“Morne des Olives”, “Grand Bouliki”, “Forêt de Rabuchon”, “Petit Bouliki”, and “Fond Fougères” are the principal forests which compose the great forest managed and protected by the National Office of the Forests. Sprinkled by La Rivière Balnche which takes its sources on the Piton of Carbet, precisely on the Northern slope of the Piton la croix, this place benefits from an exceptional vegetation, an ecosystem out of the ordinary, in a word, it represents the green lung of Martinique! This is precisely this green lung which inspired the name of “Coeur Bouliki”. It was born in July 1983 thanks to the ONF and all those who worked, such as Gisèle BAKA, to restore and put in value this place situated on the neighbourhood of “Durand”
